NINETEEN

WILL

Addie hasn't said anything else, but we seem to be driving. I think we're going toward her place. I hope that means she's going to take me up on my suggestion. I don't exactly relish the thought of spending my weekend in some small town I've never heard of with a bunch of strangers. But, Addie will be there. That's really all that matters. Despite everything that has happened, I'm still drawn to her. That, and I have absolutely no desire to lock myself up in my place for the next three days to avoid all the scoundrels with cameras waiting outside my door.

Addie pulls up to the curb in front of a building. It's one of those historical brick buildings that probably used to house some sort of factory, but it has been converted into loft spaces. She doesn't live all that far from my place. I like that.

"Stay here," she says. "I'll be right back." Addie swings her long legs out the door. I open my door and follow suit. She looks back at me and shakes her head. "You're not coming inside."

I close the door and step out on the sidewalk, ignoring her.

"Hello, didn't you hear me?" Addie waves her hand before my face. "Sit in the car, and I'll drop you at your place on my way out of town." She thinks she's going to dump me off at home just like that? Not going to happen.

Addie walks toward the entry door, and I follow close on her heels. I can be very persistent when I want something. And, for some unexplained reason, I want to see her place. I want to know where she spends her time. Her key turns in the lock and she notices me hovering behind her. Addie looks over her shoulder and shakes her head. She seems to have given up on trying to keep me in the car.

"Fine. Come on. I'll only be a minute," she says. I follow her up a flight of stairs. Addie unlocks another door and it opens to a large, airy space. The ceilings are vaulted, and tall windows line the front wall. It's set up like a true loft. Her bedroom is a designated section of the massive room. A kitchen and living area are delineated by invisible barriers.

"Nice place," I say as I scan the room.

Addie drops her purse on the counter and walks over to her bed where an open suitcase is laid out. "Thanks."

As Addie busies herself packing her things and shutting the luggage, I find my eyes drawn to her twisted up bedsheets. I know I should bite my tongue, but I can't help myself. I point toward the mussed-up bedding. "Looks like someone had a wild night," I tease.

I catch the slightest blush crawling up Addie's neck at my comment as she tries to ignore me. So, she did have a wild night. The hypocrisy is not lost on me, but I instantly wonder who the fuck she had in her bed last night.
